National Day of Prayer 2008

The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer took place on Thursday,
May 1, 2008. The theme for this year was "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" and was based on the verse from Psalm 28:7 which states: "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped."
"Somebody's Praying"

Somebody's prayin', I can feel it
Somebody's prayin', for me
Mighty hands are guiding me
To protect me from what I can't see
Lord I believe, Lord I believe
Somebody's prayin' for me

Angels are watchin', I can feel it
Angels are watchin' over me.
There's many miles ahead 'till I get home
Still, I'm safely kept before your throne.
Lord, I believe.  Lord, I believe
Angels are watchin' over me.

Well, I've walked the barren wilderness
Where my pillow was a stone
And I've been through the darkest caverns
Where no light has ever shown

Still, I went on 'cause there was someone
Who was down on their knees
And Lord, I thank you for those people
Prayin' all this time for me.

Somebody's prayin', I can feel it
Somebody's prayin' for me
Mighty hands are guiding me
To protect me from what I can't see
Lord I believe, Lord I believe
Somebody's prayin' for me
Somebody's prayin' for me.

As a man of prayer, Ricky Skaggs  joined with millions in praying for America on May 1.

"We are praying that a drawing toward Christ in relationship would take place. Prayer always precedes revival...no revival ever started without prayer. Prayer shows a dependency upon God."

If there has ever been a time that our land has needed to be restored, it is now.  We lifted up our nation, its leaders and families to God in prayer.  This special day was set aside for the entire nation to pray and was an awesome opportunity to teach our children about the power of prayer.  It was also a great time to teach or review just how we became "One Nation Under God" in your history lessons.

The children were the ones who lead the prayers, recited patriotic quotes and sang songs that honor God and our nation.

The day ended with some fun outdoor activities and lunch.

Activities Included:

Pledge of Allegiance
Pledge to the Bible
Opening Prayer
Reciting the Preamble to the Constitution
Patriotic Quotes
Songs
Prayer for our Nation, Leaders and Families
